Turyści (The Tourists)

a Journalistic Platform piece presented together with Gliniane gołębie (Clay pigeons; the joint premiere took place in Opole either on 31 March or 1 April 1961). The poster states that the creators were a collective including Andrzej Bielski, Ludwik Flaszen, Jerzy Grotowski, Jerzy Gurawski, Antoni Jahołkowski, Bernard Juszczak and Adam Kurczyna. The performers were: Andrzej Bielski, Antoni Jahołkowski and Adam Kurczyna, while the montage of documentary texts, audio recordings and film material was created by Jerzy Grotowski, with Jerzy Gurawski designing the set. The performance made use of personal testimonies on wartime experiences and had a decidedly anti-fascist and anti-revisionist tone. The piece was aesthetically minimalist and modest, in keeping with the conventions of a stage performance addressed directly to the audience, with the actors’ personalities subordinated to the historical and ideological message (consequently commentaries and reviews made reference to Bertolt Brecht’s approach). It was shown over thirty times, primarily as a touring production, with performances taking place at workplaces and particular locations around the Opole region: the Opole dairy (10 April 1961), Namysłów (13 April), the main auditorium of the Opole Educational Institute (WSP; 19 April), Niemodlin (29 April), Kościeliska (7 May), Łącznik (11 May), Łambinowice (12 May), Krzyżanowice (14 May), at the Nysa Technical Agricultural College (16 May), Zawiść (18 May), Jasienica (19 May) and Gracze (22 May).
