Cynkutis Jolanta

(1954–2013) actress. From 1980 to 1981 Jolanta was a member of the Laboratory Theatre. From 1985 to 1989 she was an actress of the Second Wrocław Studio, led by Zbigniew Cynkutis until 1987 and then by Mirosław Kocur. She appeared in the following productions: Phaedra-Seneca (1986), Phaedra (1986), Aeschylus Prometheus (1986; the role of Io earned her an extramural degree in acting from the State Drama School in Warsaw), The Song of Songs (1986), The Story of C Sharp Bird (1987), Anhelli (1987), and Dead Souls (1988). In 1987 she was artistic supervisor to Hamlet prepared by Kim Mancuso and collaborated with Khalid Tyabji on his one-man play Jester’s Song. In 1988 she took part in open presentations of Martin Buber’s Elias translated and directed by Mirosław Kocur. In 1989 she left the Second Wrocław Studio, which was dissolved by Wrocław authorities.
From 1996 to 1998 Jolanta Cynkutis worked in Teatr Polski in Poznań, where she prepared a one-woman play, Mona Rogers in Person, based on the novel by Philip-Dimitri Galás (1996). The show had been staged internationally, including in Germany and Japan, and earned her multiple awards, such as awards from WROSTJA (Wrocław), OFTJA (Toruń, Poland) and the 2nd Women’s Plays Festival (Bydgoszcz, Poland). She collaborated with Lech Raczak, was a member of the group Sekta, appeared in the TV play The Case of Ijon Tichy (1999) and in Dying is Easy (2002). She conducted theatre workshops and co-founded the Antrakt Theatre Association. In 2004, together with Khalid Tyabji, she founded a two-person theatre group called Jolkha.
Jolanta Cynkutis’s efforts led to the publishing, in October 2012, by the publishing arm of the National Film School in Łódź, of Aktor. Animator twórczych procesów [Actor. Animator of Creative Processes], a book with texts and sketches by Zbigniew Cynkutis.
